Inspiring Mom: Jenny Wecker of Fawn Design

In celebration of Mother's Day, we reached out to a handful of working moms who inspire us, and we asked them to share their thoughts, insight, and advice on motherhood and balancing mom life with work life.

Happy Mother's Day! We're sending love to all you mamas out there! Today we're featuring our very own Jenny Wecker, CEO and Founder of Fawn Design, and mama to Georgia, 3, and June, almost 2. When Jenny isn't juggling meetings, photo shoots, and brainstorming new products, she loves spending the weekends with her family and watching movies with her girls or golfing with her husband, Cole. Below, Jenny shares what a day in her life looks like, her thoughts on work-life balance, her family's favorite way to spend the weekend, the quote that is currently resonating with her, and more!

WHAT DOES YOUR AVERAGE DAY LOOK LIKE AS A WORKING MOM?

I like to be home when my girls wake up, so my work day starts around 10. I spend a lot of time in meetings with all sorts of people! I'm also checking in on our team and making sure they have what they need. I spend time thinking about new campaigns and products for Fawn a lot when I am driving—I spend a lot of time in the car driving to and from meetings! I love when I can sit in my office, listen to music, catch up on emails, plan out my calendar for the upcoming week, and talk with my COO about all the new stuff we are working on!

HOW DO YOU FIND BALANCE BETWEEN MOM LIFE AND WORK LIFE? OR DO YOU BELIEVE THERE IS SUCH A THING?

No such thing—well, in my book. I think not setting that expectation helps take off some pressure. I'm learning to accept that my life might look different than my friends or family, and that is just fine! For me, when I'm working I am working! But when I'm with my family thats my focus! So if I'm dealing with some pressing stuff at work, I don't come home until I feel like I can give my family the time and attention they deserve. Sometimes that means late work nights, but it also means if I want to take a random Tuesday off I usually can. It's important to set boundaries with yourself and really stick to them. I've become so much better at this over the years. I quickly saw, though, that work can take over real fast if you let it!

HOW HAS MOTHERHOOD INSPIRED YOU IN YOUR OCCUPATION OR CHANGED YOUR PERSPECTIVE TOWARDS WORK?

Fawn Design is all about women and moms! I am inspired daily by my own children, our customers, and the people I cross paths with. When I started Fawn, I actually wasn't a mom yet! The changes and improvements we've made in our business have come from of course my own experiences now, but also from all the feedback we've received over the last 4.5 years! My perspective going forward is to focus on moms and women! We always put ourselves last, and I want Fawn to offer products that help women and moms feel good about themselves!

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU OFFER OTHER WORKING MOMS?

Love the life you've built! It's easy to compare and feel like you're not doing a great job, but you are! Set time aside for your family and be clear what your boundaries are with work.

WHAT'S YOUR FAMILY'S FAVORITE WAY TO SPEND THE WEEKEND?

Doing a whole lot of nothing! Our weekdays are so crazy its nice to sleep in and watch Disney movies with my girls! We love to go to our favorite bagel place, Rich's Bagels, at least one weekend morning!

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE WAY TO SPEND AN HOUR OF ALONE TIME OR A DATE-NIGHT WITH YOUR SPOUSE?

I love to soak in the bath and unwind at night while listening to a book or podcast with wireless headphones! My ideal date with my husband is golfing—Cole and I love to golf together! It's so nice to be outside and have 18 holes to catch up!

WHAT HAS SURPRISED YOU MOST ABOUT MOTHERHOOD?

How tired I would be, all the time! Not many days go by that I don't feel tired by 3 p.m. Haha!

WHAT HAS MOTHERHOOD TAUGHT YOU OR WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM YOUR CHILDREN?

My children have taught me what matters the very most in life—my girls and Cole. Without them I am lost. They have taught me how to be patient and forgiving. They have helped me feel a love I never knew existed. Georgia and June help me live and love life to the fullest.

WHAT QUOTE IS CURRENTLY RESONATING WITH YOU?

Being a mom and business owner can be so tough. The days feel long and not with much resolution. A quote I stumbled upon recently that I love is, "Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says, I'll try again tomorrow."
