Fourth of July Style + Family Activities
Who else is excited for the 4th of July?! Independence Day is one of our very favorite holidays—after all, what's not to love about fireworks, barbecues, and stars + stripes? To get in a patriotic spirit, we put together some festive Fourth of July outfits perfect for a variety of activities, from a pool party to a neighborhood parade. Celebrate America in style and show your love for the red, white, and blue with the following family-friendly activities and 4th of July outfit inspiration!
4th of July Pool Party
The perfect way to cool off when it's hot outside? With a pool party, of course! Invite your friends and their kiddos to join you for a day of fun in the sun followed by fireworks in the evening.
WHAT TO WEAR:
Suit up in Fourth of July-inspired swimwear for the whole family. Accessorize with a stylish sun hat and the Clear Fawny Pack for lounging poolside. Use the Fawny's zipper compartment to keep your favorite sunscreen stick, lip balm, and sunglasses close by. Bonus: the clear vinyl material is easy to wipe clean, so you don't have to stress about your Fawny getting wet or messy.
Swimwear from Kortni Jeane
HOW TO CELEBRATE:
Use the Fawn Design Tote to carry your pool-party essentials:
- Towels: We like these Mae Woven Turkish towels
- Sunscreen: We love Glossier's Invisible Shield and Tubby Todd Play Mineral Sunscreen for our kiddos
- Pool Float: How fun is this giant inflatable swan?! The floatie is big enough to fit you and your littles!
- Books: On our summer reading list: "More Than Enough" by Elaine Welteroth and "City of Girls" by Elizabeth Gilbert. p.s. We're starting a Fawn Design Book Club! Join us and read "More Than Enough" for the month of July. We'll be sharing more details on Instagram, so stay tuned!
4th of July Lake Day
When summer rolls around, we love to spend a day at the lake! To beat the heat down in the valley, we hop in the car and take a quick drive up to Tibble Fork Reservoir in American Fork Canyon. The scenery is beautiful and the location is literally a breath of fresh air!
WHAT TO WEAR:
Get the look for a day at the lake with a summery picnic-inspired plaid top. Pair it with jeans or cut-offs and your favorite sandals. Accessorize with a sun hat and the Fawn Design Drawstring Bag—the perfect bag for a day of exploring! And don't forget to pack your suit!
Women's Clothing: Plaid blouse by Ace & Jig | Jeans from Madewell | Hat from Gigi Pip | Kid's Clothing: Girl's Denim Romper from Mabo | Boy's Outfits from Zara
HOW TO CELEBRATE:
Whether you drive to Tibble Fork or any other body of water near you, here are a few of our favorite activities:
- Rent stand-up paddle boards and paddle around the lake
- Go fishing
- Play cards or board games
- Skip rocks on the lake with little ones
- Good ol' fashioned swimming
4th of July BBQ
Nothing says summer like a backyard barbecue! For the 4th of July, fire up the grill, set up lawn games, and invite your nearest and dearest over for a holiday feast.
WHAT TO WEAR:
The perfect look for a Fourth of July backyard barbecue? A gingham wrap dress paired with the Poppy Fawny Pack! Dress your littles in coordinating red, white, and blue attire, like a gingham skirt for girls or khakis and a striped shirt for boys.
Women's Clothing: Gingham Dress from Old Navy | Kid's Clothing: Gingham Skirt from Roolee | White Tank from Zara | Khaki Pants + Striped shirt from Zara
WHAT TO EAT:
We love to grill up burgers, brats, chicken kebabs, and corn on the cob. Check out this round-up of grilling recipes for just about anything you can imagine. For no-fail side dishes, try this potato salad from FoodieCrush or this summer tomato salad from SkinnyTaste. For dessert, serve up Birdie's Bakery patriotic-inspired sugar cookies with buttercream frosting or delectable French apple tart.
HOW TO CELEBRATE:
Keep things casual with a simple wood table and red, white, and blue dishes. Sliced watermelon and baskets of strawberries double as edible decor. Wrap utensils in napkins and tie with twine or place utensils in Mason jars so they're easy to grab. Fill glass bottles or a pitcher with water, iced tea, or lemonade.
4th of July Parade
Whether you're participating in a neighborhood parade or heading downtown to take in the city parade, gather your family, friends, and little ones and wave those flags high and proud!
WHAT TO WEAR:
For a full day of celebrating, we love the ease of stylish sundresses and jumpsuits—just throw one on and you're good to go! Accessorize with the Fawn Design Mini or the Fawn Design Mini Tote. Both bags are the perfect size for your wallet, keys, phone, sunnies, and more. Dress your kiddos in equally easy pieces: overalls for the littles, rompers + dresses for girls, and shorts + tees for the boys.
Women's Clothing: Dress from Ace & Jig | Jumpsuit from Sonnet James | Kid's Clothing: Girl's Dress + Romper from Mabo | Girl's Striped Pants + Top from Zara | Boy's Clothing from Zara | Little Boy Overalls + Striped Tee from Mabo
HOW TO CELEBRATE:
Some of our favorite summer memories are from 4th of July parades in our neighborhood. We'd wake up early, eat pancakes on the front lawn, decorate our bikes with streamers, and ride around the block until sundown with our friends. Host your own neighborhood gathering with a potluck breakfast, bike-decorating and watermelon-eating contents, and a fireworks show in the street that night! And don't forget to bust out the flags and confetti!
4th of July Fireworks
By far our favorite activity for the 4th of July is watching fireworks! We love to get a blanket and snacks and head to our local park or drive up to the resort town of Park City to catch all the action!
WHAT TO WEAR:
Whether you're watching fireworks at the park or in your own backyard, show your patriotic spirit in a striped tee and keep your cool in white linen pants. Dress your little ones in comfy clothing that they can roll (or crawl) around on the grass in.
Women's Clothing: Striped Tee + Pants from Roolee | Kid's Clothing: Baby Girl Romper: Old Navy | Baseball Tee + Shorts: Roolee
HOW TO CELEBRATE:
Cuddle up on a big, cozy blanket like this gingham check blanket from Pottery Barn. Stash snacks, drinks, and some sparklers and fireworks in your Fawn Design Original, and get ready for the big show!
Wishing you and your family a happy Fourth of July!
